AI in music: a revolution that's already playing

La IA en la música: una revolución que ya suena

Brain Code |

Artificial intelligence has revolutionized the music industry. Thanks to platforms like Suno and Udio , anyone can now generate a complete song—with vocals, lyrics, and instrumental accompaniment—from a simple prompt. What once required a studio, musicians, and time can now be created in seconds from a web browser.

This progress, however, has not been without controversy. In 2024, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) sued several of these startups, alleging that they trained their models on copyrighted songs without permission. The dispute raises complex legal questions about authorship and fair use in the era of AI-generated content.

Meanwhile, streaming platforms like Spotify began taking action. In May 2023, the company removed tens of thousands of AI-generated tracks, many from the Boomy platform, after detecting suspicious behavior patterns related to artificial playback bots.

The debate is more alive than ever: Are we witnessing a new era of creative democratization or the dehumanization of music? While artists like Grimes and Holly Herndon incorporate AI into their creative process, others warn of the risk of automated plagiarism and a saturation of irrelevant content.

What is certain is that artificial intelligence has changed the way music is created, distributed, and consumed. And the pace of this transformation has only just begun.
