Creative professionals demand regulation of the use of generative AI

Profesionales creativos exigen regulación en el uso de la IA generativa

Cartoonists, screenwriters, and voice actors are demanding greater control over the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to avoid being replaced. Raúl Lara, spokesperson for the Platform of Associations and Unions of Voice Artists in Spain (PASAVE), mentions projects that seek to use recorded voices to train AI, threatening employment in their sector. They have managed to include a clause in contracts with some large distributors that prohibits the use of their voices to train AI, but they face resistance in the video game industry. In advertising, the replacement of voices with synthetic voices has drastically reduced work. Companies like Toys R Us and Coca-Cola have used AI to create advertisements, and public administrations have employed artificial images, often at the expense of quality. David López, a comic book artist, criticizes AI for not understanding context and for potentially discouraging new artists. In response, the Council of Ministers has approved a draft bill to regulate the proper use of AI, with hefty fines for failing to properly label content generated by this technology.

Best practices for creative professionals:

  1. Continuing Education: Stay up-to-date on AI tools and how they can be ethically integrated into your work.
  2. Active Collaboration: Participate in unions and associations that protect the rights of creatives in the digital age.
  3. Contract Negotiation: Make sure to include clauses that protect the use of your work in AI training.
